And you're proposing to pay a technician to do the upgrade, which is probably going to cost at least $200 more.

I'm an incorrigible upgrader myself, but it looks to me like you're going to spend something like $500-600 just on the new operating system and hardware (very rough: Win 7 Upgrade - $100 8GB DDR2 memory - $100-140 1TB HDD - $90 256BG SSD - $250).

Blowing out your computer with air is a good thing but if your system has the ability use software to monitor the temps while running the malware software, it could be you are over heating, again, the blowing out with air could help this problem.

Once sure, then download all the latest dirvers from dell and see if there is any new bios for the computer. If a malware product is doing it then I would try this.īoot into safe mode with networking and download housecall by trend micro and run it and download a different malware software and run it as well in safe mode to rule out a possible malware that has infected your virus scanner and or malware software. Once again, thanks Richard & dmartin for taking time to try to help - much appreciated. (iii) buy a new machine - while a higher cash outlay in the short term it will likely save me time for more important things (like taking photos) + I can upgrade to a quieter machine! (ii) try phoning Dell (I think my service contract is still live) (i) get myself a can of 'air', open up the case and blow off the dust which will have accumulated However, I have exhausted my computer skills (run all windows 'diagnostic' tests at startup + installed 'Driver Manager' software - albeit with only partial success in using it). I can clarify that the 'blue screen' quotes a '77' reference & not '7B'. The blue screen happens at night - I think triggered by a virus scan I have scheduled within 'Malawarebytes' software. Great input re the 'blue screen' - I had assumed that an upgrade to new OS / hard-drives would be an 'automatic' solution. Thanks for your posting - yes, my preferred plan was to 'upgrade' my T3400 (a Dell 'tower-like' workstation). Good luck to you but I fear the outlook is not good.

Learn how to read a crash dump to find which driver is misbehaving if it is not a 7b. There are some other things, make sure the cpu is not overheating because of dust on fans. Some may disagree and want to troubleshoot with you, that is ok, but if you are getting a Ox0000007B, I would save the time and the trouble and get a new computer. If you are not computer savy, buy a new computer. If you do continue to have blue screens buy a new computer. If you do, use the manufacture recovery disk and set it back to factory and see if you still have the blue screen. Try installing win764 before you buy any upgrades and make sure you have no blue screens.

Either figure out what is causing your blue screen if you have the skills. In the case above the user got a 7B which is a hardware issue with 2 different motherboards. Looking online some others are having issues with problems with this model and windows 7, card reader is one.

Having your hard drive over 60 percent full will not cause a blue screen. Most likely a driver or hardware issue, either way you better figure it out because upgrading will not help if the problem is hardware or driver related (although a new driver from win764 might be helpful). You are NOT going to replace the laptop, you are going to upgrade it?īad idea until you find out what the blue screen is caused by. I did not understand you correctly and that is probably my poor comprehension skills. ~ Intel(R) ICH9 SATA AHCI Controller (not sure what this means?)Ĥ x 2 (or even 4)GB RAM (for 8 or 16GB in total)Īny observations as to practicality of this proposal (I would propose finding a technician to do the installation of hardware + operating system + data transfer).

~ Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller My Dell Precision T3400 was delivered early January 2009 - suffering from frequent 'Blue-screen' close-downs + hard drive over 60% full - major features: Computer used for digital photo - rarely take video, but recently moved to using 'raw' photos from a Nikon P7100 (Adobe Elements + Nikon 2) music (iTunes + Logitech + ASUS Xonar utility), + home finances (Quicken + TurboTax) + occassionally working from home (Microsoft Office 2007) + internet security/antivirus (Norton Internet Security + others).Ĭurrently I am using Carbonite as a 'back-up' vehicle (but acquired a NetGear Ultra to act as local back-up - if I can ever master the confusing terminolgy!).
